With Shigeru Miyamoto firmly at the helm, Nintendo took the Super Mario franchise to a peak on the NES with the awesome Super Mario 3. But then, as the SNES was born, it did the unthinkable; Miyamoto helped create what is considered by many to be the best of the entire series: Super Mario World. Though it's still highly cherished for its excellent gameplay and puzzle, when it first debuted the game was a jaw-dropping showcase of the system's graphical power, with its gorgeous colors, scaling sprite effects, and exceptional character designs. It was also one of the most creative 2D platformers ever dreamed into existence, as Mario's new yellow cape charmed gamers while he soared high through the skies. The ability to ride Yoshi and swallow enemies, an entire section of secret levels, and some unforgettable tunes from Koji Kondo make the package complete.
